Newspaper Advertising Sales Representative

We’re looking for a bright, personable individual to join our fun and fast-paced retail advertising sales team. We are hoping to find the person who enjoys both phone and face-to-face interface with customers. Someone who is a problem solver and works well with small, local businesses. And, because we are always growing, we’re looking for someone who is not turned off by cold calling and enjoys meeting new people daily.

This job requires an organized individual with computer skills, creativity for ad development, math ability for creating proposals for customers, great presentation skills and a desire to succeed. A positive attitude is half the battle in sales. Ideally, we would prefer some media sales experience, but retail sales, business-to-business sales and/or telemarketing experience might be acceptable. We are willing to train the right person.

The Outlook has an immediate opening for a reporter covering the city of Gresham and several other smaller beats. The Outlook is a twice weekly newspaper, which took first place in the 2014 general excellence category of the ONPA Better Newspapers Contest.

We are seeking a reporter who enjoys enterprise journalism and who demonstrates a commitment to community-based journalism. This reporter will write features, and cover general news and breaking news. This reporter also will embrace online and social media.

The ideal candidate will have a degree in journalism and 5 years newspaper reporting experience. Strong writing and editing skills are a requirement, as is the ability to meet deadlines and manage several projects at one time.

The Newberg Graphic, a member of the Pamplin Media Group of newspapers, is seeking a seasoned reporter to fill a position that will open in November. This reporter is responsible for a variety of beats, including business, arts & leisure, government and general assignment. The newspaper, located 25 miles southwest of Portland in the beautiful Chehalem Valley, is looking for a reporter with two or more years of experience working at a weekly, twice-weekly or small daily newspaper, someone capable of producing 12 to 17 stories weekly, with good interviewing and time management skills. Salary is at the industry standard for small newspapers and there is a benefit and 401(k) package as well. Experience with web posting and updating the newspaper’s Facebook page are a plus. Associate Editor/Reporter

We're looking for an associate editor to provide enthusiastic leadership support for three weekly newspapers (The Gresham Outlook, Sandy Post and Estacada News) and a significant number of annual special sections. You'll work from our central office in Gresham, joining our 12-person newsroom covering these diverse market areas.

As associate editor, you will shoulder a large percentage of the copy editing of four editions that are produced each week in our office. The associate editor is responsible for planning and implementation of some (but not all) special section content, coaching reporters and some beat reporting duties. The associate editor also provides backup in the absence of the executive editor.

We are looking for someone who is curious, enthusiastic, enjoys working with young talent in a collaborative team environment, and desires personal involvement in their community. Our ideal candidate is dedicated to the highest standard of community-oriented journalism.

Candidates must have a minimum of 5 years newsroom experience and demonstrate proficiency in copy editing, interviewing, writing, planning and use of social media.
