by: VERN UYETAKE - Roman and Grayson Ollar spring down the straightaway in the 1500 at last week's district meet. The brothers qualified for state by placing first and second in both the 1500 and the 3000.Four Lions advanced through districts and qualified for the upcoming state track meet in Eugene.

The boys were led by a pair of 1-2 finishes from Roman and Grayson Ollar in both the 1500 and the 3000.

On Friday, the brothers cruised in the 3000 with Roman winning with a personal best time of 8:43.15. Grayson also broke his personal best by two seconds.

The next day, the pair ran a smart race, preserving energy and using strong kicks in the final 200 meters to finish 1-2 again.

“It was kind of a slower race. I just wanted to stay in the lead and see if anyone made a move,” Roman Ollar said.

“I just let Roman worry about the pace and stayed right with him,” Grayson Ollar said.

Heading into state, Roman Ollar has the fifth-fastest 1500 time in 6A but is just a second-and-a-half off of the fastest time turned in this year in what appears to be a wide open competition.

After narrowly missing out on a trip to state last year in the discus with a third-place finish in districts, Gavin Anderson won the event in his senior season with a throw of 143'2”, a personal-best.

The Lions had other strong performances in the 800, where Michael Katancik and Conor Egan finished fifth and sixth.

In the shot put, Garett Keizur also took fifth while Ryan Kelly finished fifth in the high jump. Connor Kelly finished sixth in the pole vault as did Troy Carver in the triple jump.

In the girls' event, freshman Meghan Carbiener took second and qualified for state in the discus, with a throw of 100'10”.

Johanna Briscoe finished fifth in the 1500 and seventh in the 3000. Diana Swanson made the finals in both hurdles events, taking seventh in the 100 and fifth in the 300.

Emily Rissberger just missed out a a trip to state, clearing 5'0” in the high jump and taking third.

Rissberger was also a strong sixth in the long jump.

The state meet is this Friday and Saturday at the University of Oregon.
