Free walk/run event met its goal of bringing in more than 1,000 pounds of non-perishable foods

The free walk/run event met its goal of bringing in more than 1,000 pounds of non-perishable foods, according to organizer Laura Jeffrey, though an exact figure had yet to be calculated.

"It was mild but very rainy," she said. "A lot of families and dogs."

Costco, Trader Joe's, Safeway, Starbucks and Market of Choice each donated food and coffee for the event, while Tualatin Valley Fire & Rescue brought a rig and joined with West Linn Police ensure safety.
