Attend holiday parade

The annual West Linn holiday parade is set for Saturday at 10 a.m. on Willamette Falls Drive in West Linn. This year’s theme is “It’s a Wonderful Life West Linn — 100 Years.”

The parade begins at 10 a.m. and day of parade registration and check-in starts at 9 a.m. Preregistration is preferred.

Join Santa after the parade at Willamette Fire Station. There will be hot cocoa, cider and cookies. Bring a new unwrapped toy for local children in need and visit local merchants in historic Willamette Area. This year once again prior to the Holiday Parade will be the Ugly Holiday Sweater Dash.

Register for Ugly Sweater Dash

The annual Ugly Sweater Dash is Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon at Willamette Falls Drive in West Linn.

The 5K fun run starts at 9 a.m. and the fee includes race number, breakfast and commemorative mug to use throughout the holiday season. The run raises funds and food donations for the West Linn Food Pantry. Cost is $25 per adult, plus two cans of food for the West Linn Food Pantry food drive. Kids 12 years and younger are $20, plus can of food.

The 1-mile dash starts at 9:30 a.m. Fee includes race number, breakfast and a commemorative mug to use throughout the holiday season. Cost is $15 per person, plus two cans of food and kids 12 and younger are $10, plus one can of food. There is also a special family rate of $40 for two adults and two children plus six cans of food. Mugs will be given to the first 200 participants.

Drop off toys for charity

Tod Billings, a local Edward Jones financial adviser, is supporting the Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots program by using his office as a drop-off location for this year’s toy drive.

Local residents may help needy children in the area by bringing in a new, unwrapped toy to the office, 1664 Willamette Falls Drive, during regular business hours through Dec. 17.

Brunch with Santa set

MOMS Club of West Linn invites families to attend the 11th annual Santa Brunch fundraiser at the Oregon Golf Club on Dec. 15 from 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Join the fun and bring your children for photos with Santa, police and fire truck tours, keepsake crafts including gingerbread houses, face painting, ornament making and more.

The brunch will include a continental breakfast, coffee and peppermint milkshakes. Fundraising includes a silent auction and a raffle.

Tickets are $10 (children 2 and younger are free) in advance and includes the all crafts and activities, food and drink. Purchase tickets at momsclubofwestlinn.org. Admission is $12 at the door (credit cards accepted with small additional service fee).

This event raises funds and awareness for Clackamas Women’s Services, which provides shelter and services for women and children who are escaping violence. CWS is in the process of opening the first Family Justice Center in Clackamas County where victims can find safety and all the services they need — all under one roof.

Register for Sandelie Mud Run

Registration is now open for the 2014 Sandelie Mud Run on Sandelie Golf Course.

The event date is Jan. 11 and the race is limited to the first 250 entries.

There will be a 5K and a 10K event available, and a portion of all proceeds will benefit Tualatin Valley Fire & Rescue.

Maddax Woods holiday lights are on nightly

In its 10th year, Maddax Woods will be lit daily from 4 to 9 p.m. through Dec. 31. Come and enjoy a magical walk down a lighted accessible path through the woods and to the viewing platform on the Willamette River.

Maddax Woods is located at 5785 River St. in West Linn.

Volunteer at Maddax Woods

Maddax Woods needs help to fight back against English ivy and other non-native invasive plants. You can volunteer to help save the trees, native plants and animals in the nature parks. Every third Saturday of each month there are park restoration events. All individuals, families and groups are invited. Volunteers meet at 9 a.m. at the Maddax Woods parking area located at 5785 River St. in West Linn. The event hours are from 9 a.m. to noon. Bring sturdy shoes and gloves.

Volunteer group meets weekly at Mary S. Young State Park

Volunteers meet every Monday and Wednesday from 8:30 a.m. to noon at Mary S. Young State Park, 19900 Willamette Drive. Email or call John Linman or Dave Kruse about details or meet at the tool shed in the gravel parking lot. Bring your own work gloves. All necessary tools are provided.

Volunteer at the library

Many of the hundreds of items the West Linn Public Library checks in and shelves each day are handled by volunteers. The library is currently looking for people age 14 and older who can make a regular commitment to shelve library materials, keep shelves organized and participate in occasional special projects.

WLACC seeks volunteer bus driver

The West Linn Adult Community Center is looking for a volunteer bus driver with a current commerical driver’s license to drive its 18-passenger bus that takes members on daytime trips several times a month.

At times it involves just a few hours, while other trips last most of the day.

The community center has several drivers that it rotates through, and so it is not a significant time commitment.
