Help girls gain confidence

Girls from ages 10 to 13 are invited to sign up for series of empowerment and mentoring sessions presented by West Linn parent and psychotherapist Diane Gans in conjunction with Laura Barbour, a counselor working at Stafford Primary School.

The sessions will be held on Mondays from April 21 to June 2, from 4:30 to 6 p.m. at Sachi Wellness Center in West Linn. Cost is $200.

Group activities will focus on choosing healthy friendships, challenging stereotypes and social pressures, managing relational aggression and gaining a confident, powerful voice.

Train with the Debs

West Linn High School’s dance team is holding a spring training dance clinic April 19 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the school’s main gym.

The clinic will be taught at the high school by the Debutantes’ coaches and is open to students in grades 6 through 9 who are interested in trying out for the Debs.

The cost is $35, and registration forms are available on the WLHS website: http://wlhs.wlwv.k12.or.us.

Dance team tryouts for the 2014-15 season will be held May 8 to 11 from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. in the WLHS gym. For more information, visit the Debs’ page on the WLHS website.

Dates set for incoming WLHS frosh

Parents of current eighth-grade students who will attend West Linn High School in the fall are invited to attend a parent night April 16 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. in the high school auditorium.

Students are welcome to attend, but the will receive similar information when they visit WLHS with their middle schools to forecast for their freshmen year.

At the meeting, parents will meet the administration and counseling staff and review graduation requirements and course offerings for freshmen. The forecasting timeline and process will also be explained, along with summer school opportunities.

Information regarding the ninth-grade advanced placement offerings will also be provided. Families will also recive an overview of the placement process in core classes, an overview of co-curricular activities and resources for supporting incoming freshmen.

All parents of incoming freshmen are encouraged to attend, even if they have had students at the high school before, as some information has changed.

Current eighth-grade students will visit WLHS for orientation and forecasting with their middle school, according to the following schedule: Rosemont Ridge, April 21 and Athey Creek and Three Rivers, April 22. Each school visit will run from 9:30 to 11:15 a.m.

Join Willamette’s garden clean-up

Willamette Primary School has scheduled a session to clean up the school’s garden. All are welcome to join in Saturday from 9 to 11 a.m. Willamette is located at 1403 12th St., West Linn. Contact the school for more information: 503-673-7250.

Celebrate Earth Month at Cedaroak

A day of stewardship, fellowship and fun is scheduled Sunday at Cedaroak Park Primary School, 4515 Cedaroak Drive, for the school’s annual Earth Month celebration. Families and friends of the school will gather from 1 to 3 p.m. to create homemade car air fresheners, plant, weed and pick up trash.

Attendees should bring work gloves, gardening hand tools, yard debris bags and shovels. Manual edgers, wheelbarrows, rakes and clippers also are needed.
