Jim Pierce won the raffle for a 2017 Audi A4 at the Sneak Peek Charity Preview party that kicked off the 2017 Portland International Auto Show on Jan. 25.
Jim and his wife Maeva of Camas, Washington were first-year attendees at the party and honored guests of EC Company. They were presented with their car last weekend at Audi Beaverton, which was a sponsor of the party this year and the dealer who provided the car for the raffle.
Jim says his family are avid attendees of the annual auto show and big car enthusiasts. Their passion for cars includes son Cayden's custom built crew crab truck that features a gull wing door to make for easy access to attend the auto show in style.
The auto show is the largest annual exhibition of new vehicles in the region. It is produced by the Metro Portland New Car Dealers Association. It was held from Jan. 26 to 29 at the Oregon Convention Center.
This was the fourth year of the charity party that raised a record $600,000 for seven nonprofit organizations.
At the party, attendees had a a 1-in-5,000 chance to win the raffle vehicle. They were automatically entered into the raffle for the Audi A4 by purchasing a ticket. The raffle drawing took place live onsite at the party just after 8 p.m.
With a couple thousand anxious attendees, Auto Show Executive Vice President Greg Remensperger and Audi Beaverton Vice President of Operations Frank Geary pulled the winning ticket. At the time of the drawing, Jim was in another area enjoying the show so he had no idea he won the raffle until he was contacted by Remensperger by phone.
Jim recalls having conversations with friends at the party while walking through the show about how it would feel to be the winner of a prize like the Audi A4 or any prize at such an event. They joked about them not knowing anyone who has one a raffle. Jim was shocked when Greg told him about winning the raffle.
