The North Marion cheer team took home fourth place at the 2017 State Championship competition in Portland on Saturday.
The Huskies had an impressive showing at the event, hosted at the Veteran's Memorial Coliseum, finishing in the top five for the ninth time in the past 10 years since the OSAA switched to six classifications.
North Marion scored 166.30 points, beating their previous score from last year's third-place team. The Huskies scored 61.30 points in building skills, 56.00 in tumbling and jumps, and 49.00 in overall routine, which surpassed all three marks from last year's state competition. However, a trio of teams — Gladstone, Sweet Home and Henley — each scored above 170 points to bump North Marion down to fourth overall.
Gladstone finished as 4A state champion with 175.80 points, narrowly edging Sweet Home by a 0.20 margin of victory.
