by: SETH GORDON - Carolina Ruvalcaba and the St. Paul Buckaroos will attempt to snap Condon/Wheelers 28-game win streak to advance to the 1A finals. The streaking St. Paul girls will be playing for a trip to the 1A state basketball finals when the Bucks face the No. 1 Condon/Wheeler Knights at 1:30 p.m. at Baker City.

St. Paul (19-11, 11-3 Casco) has won nine of 10 games and carved its way through the Nos. 4, 5 and 6 teams in the state playoffs on its way to the semifinals. Now the Bucks face the best team in Oregon – the undefeated Knights.

Condon/Wheeler (28-0, 10-0 Big Sky) has largely gone unchallenged this season, beating opposing teams by an average of almost 30 points. The Knights have won all but four games by double digits, though two of those games came against St. Paul in December.

The Bucks lost to the Knights 38-29 in the championship game of the Condon Christmas Tournament Dec. 14. Two weeks later, they hosted Condon/Wheeler in a 36-29 loss at the St. Paul Holiday Tournament, in a game that remains as the Knights' closest victory of the season.

The two teams will play at 1:30 p.m. today, with broadcast coverage available on the OSAA Radio Network. A link to the broadcast can be found at http://www.osaa.org/activities/gbx/brackets?div=1A.

The winning team will advance to the finals tomorrow at 6:30 p.m. and will play against the winner of the other semifinal game between No. 2 Damascus Christian (27-1, 12-0 Valley 10) and No. 3 Triangle Lake (24-4, 15-1 Mountain West), scheduled for 6:30 p.m. today.

The two losing semifinal teams will meet tomorrow at 1:30 p.m. in the 3rd/5th-place game.
