North Marion students meet ag engineers from Chile
Fernando Marcos (left) and Henry Ibarra, agricultural engineers from Temuco, Chile, talk to North Marion High School FFA President Robert Gendhar (center) about a hydroponics project.
Marcos and Ibarra visited the school May 2 to talk about agriculture in their region, which is similar to Oregon in that its the same distance to the Equator and it grows some of the same crops. Students were able to ask them questions and show the agricultural engineers their own projects and experiments.
The visit was made possible by teacher Ann DeChenne, who met the Chileans through an adult English language class at Chemeketa Community College. While they were visiting Oregon on business, she invited them to talk to North Marion students.
