Immanuel Lutheran a place of celebration and coming together
Greetings, readers and fellow Woodburn folk!
We have a great time at Immanuel Lutheran Church on Lincoln Street. We just celebrated the installation of yours truly, Pastor Dave Miller, and it was very well attended by the members of the congregation, members of my family and also members of ecumenical groups that partner with us in our work and care for this city. A special thank you goes out to Pan De Vida, which shares our building, for providing all who attended with the BEST food ever. Gracias!
Before us, we have another celebration! We Lutherans love to party. We have the Fall Festival coming up. This event, which will be Nov. 9 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., has been going on for more than 60 years and is our biggest fundraiser. The main attraction is the sale of about 1,300 lefse (LEF-sah), Scandinavian specialty bread. Also featured are home-baked items, craft and gift items and noon luncheon (available from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.) of homemade soup, rolls and pie. All are welcome!
Money raised in early years went to various overseas missions, pastor salary, purchase parsonage, purchase kitchen appliances, monthly bills, sponsoring a child/family in community, caps and gowns for Woodburn High School graduates and so much more. Other times weve helped the AWARE Food Bank and Camp Lutherwood, which sometimes hosts week-long camps for youth at our church. We also have helped families in need both in our local church family and in our larger Woodburn community.
This years proceeds will benefit Little Lambs Preschool, which was started in 1989 at Immanuel. We have continued to build on the vision of touching the lives of young children and families with Jesus love. The preschools play-based curriculum effectively and joyfully prepares the whole child for success in further education, healthy relationships and life in general. LLPS is affiliated with the Evangelical Lutheran Education Association and the Association of Christian Schools International. These organizations provide conferences and workshops, and develop resources for schools and early childhood centers.
