Garden club donates to knot society gardeners

by: VI CUTLER - Vi Cutler of the Woodburn Garden Club presents a $250 check to Patricia Hyatt, who represents the Knot Garden Society. The Woodburn Garden Club has made a $250 donation to the Alvah. G. Cowan Park Knot Garden Society.

The society is a group of six core volunteers and others who have begun making improvements to the park at the corner of Garfield Street and Settlemier Avenue.

Already, the gardeners have tended the soil and planted red fuchsias. Future plans include resuscitating a tired stand of rose trees and replacing a missing bench at the back end of the park, which sits across from the historic Jesse Settlemier House.

"Our garden club ladies are not in a position to do a lot of physical work, but when I saw what they were doing - we have the funds, we thought, why not?" said Vi Cutler, who presented a $250 check Sept. 3 to the Knot Garden Society. "They've done a beautiful job."
