The Pohlschneider family at French Prairie Gardens will host its second annual Fight for Your Life 5K Run/Walk and Kids Dash on Sept. 29.
This event was created in remembrance of Emily Pohlschneider-Edwards, who died after a three-year battle with a rare form of cancer.
My family and I chose to start Fight for Your Life 5k, because it was Emilys wish to give the community a platform to fight back against a devastating disease by raising money to support and fund other families who have fought or are in the trenches fighting cancer. We hope this event will inspire others to join in the fight, said Karren Pohlschneider, owner of French Prairie Gardens & Family Farm and mother of Emily Pohlschneider-Edwards.
Registration is at 8:30 a.m. followed by the 5K chip-timed run/walk at 10:30 a.m. and the 800-meter Kids Dash at 10 a.m. for ages 5-10.
Race cost is $40 per person through Sept. 28. Day-of registration is $45 per person. All proceeds from the race will help local women fighting cancer in the community through a foundation the Pohlschneiders have founded in Emilys name called Ems Fight. For more information, visit www.EmsFight.org.
Registration includes race t-shirt, race packet, one beer (must be 21 or over) and one free admission to French Prairie Gardens & Family Farm Pumpkin Patch, Pig Races, Mazes & More. Medals will be given to the top finishers in each age group as well as for the top male and female finishers.
