The Marion County Sheriff's Office has welcomed a new K-9 member to its enforcement team: Zeke, a 3-year-old Belgian Malinois.
Zeke and his partner, Senior Deputy Peter Marcellais, are now settling in and working hard for the visitors and residents of the county, according to a July 30 press release.
Marcellais and Zeke finished their K-9 handler certification school in May and had their first apprehension together last weekend while assisting the Woodburn Police Department in search of a wanted subject.
"Zeke is a very playful puppy and his favorite thing to do is work," Marcellais said in the press release. "He will shake with excitement when I get him suited up and ready for our shift."
The purchase of Zeke was made possible through a donation from Don Mortensen, a Marion County resident. Mortensen made the donation in honor of his late wife and their love for animals.
