Two Marion County officials have been named to serve on National Association of Counties (NACo) steering committees. NACo steering committee members review legislation and make recommendations on issues that impact counties nationwide.
Commissioner Janet Carlson was selected to serve on the Human Services and Education Steering Committee. The steering committee is responsible for making recommendations on matters pertaining to childrens issues including foster care, social services, elementary to post-secondary education, as well as services to senior citizens and individuals with disabilities. A former school teacher, Carlson has focused on children and families issues throughout her tenure as a commissioner.
Chief Administrative Officer John Lattimer will serve on the Finance, Pensions and Intergovernmental Affairs Steering Committee. The committee focuses on issues relating to financial resources of counties, fiscal management, tax reform and municipal borrowing. Lattimer oversees the county budget process which has been recognized by the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada.
