Carl Veterans Memorial was dedicated two years ago, but it wasn't until last month that a parking lot to accommodate visitors was added, thanks to local volunteer fundraising efforts.project as of last month.

The veterans memorial, named in memory of former Hubbard resident and World War II flying ace Marion Carl, was dedicated in May 2012. Shortly after the dedication, HPIC began fundraising for a parking lot, which was finally installed Fourth of July weekend.

The parking lot has five spaces, including two handicapped spaces.

“It’s much easier than it was,” Myrna Cowley, HPIC secretary, said. “We had to have it ADA accessible.”

She noted that many veterans who want to come visit the site are handicapped, and the parking lot, located on the north side of the memorial on the Wolfer-Will Greenway in north Hubbard, allows easier access.

“I think it’s just wonderful,” Cowley said. “To think that a small town like Hubbard can have this is incredible.”

HPIC has been hosting a number of fundraisers for the parking lot, the last one being an auction in June that raised $3,000.
