Gervais grad dies in crash
Two young people died and three were injured in a one car crash into the Molalla River Saturday night.
Marina Toran, 19, of Salem, a 2013 graduate of Gervais High School, and driver Alexandra Alexandrova Samoilov, 19, of Canby, died after the vehicle they were in traveled off South Molalla Forest Road, down a 100-foot embankment and into the Molalla River.
Three male backseat passengers, Feudosii T. Semerikov, 21, of Gervais, and Alberta, Canada residents Dennis Frolov, 22, and Antip Alagoz, 20, were transported to the hospital. Two were transported by LifeFlight and the third by ambulance.
The crash occurred around 8 p.m. Saturday about 7.5 miles south of Molalla, according to Clackamas County Sheriffs Office deputies.
CCSO reports that a passer-by attempted to help the injured passengers at the crash scene until help arrived. Rescue personnel arrived and successfully pulled the three injured passengers up the embankment.
Investigators are still looking at what caused the crash and are unclear about whether alcohol was a factor.
The Gervais School District released the following statement on its website: "The Gervais community lost an amazing young woman named Marina Toran over the weekend. Marina graduated from our high school in 2013. Given who Marina was, and how important she is to our students, the loss of her spirit will be felt deeply."
The district will have Flight Team counselors available at Gervais High School Tuesday from 1 to 4 p.m. Students, family members and staff who feel a need to be with others who are mourning are invited to the high school during that time.
