The Fiesta Mexicana, Country Financial and the Woodburn Area Ministerial Association will be sponsoring the first bilingual worship service at the Fiesta this year.
The worship service will be held at 9 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 3, at Legion Park. The whole community is invited, and there is no charge to attend the worship service.
Pastors and congregation members from many different congregations in Woodburn are participating in the service.
Its going to be a great opportunity for all of us to worship together, focusing on the things that we have in common, instead of the things that tend to separate us, said Will Robertson, senior pastor of Souls Harbor Church of the Nazarene, and president of the Woodburn Area Ministerial Association (WAMA).
WAMAs focus has always been to draw the Christian community closer together, to provide a venue for us to hold each other up in prayer and to hold faith-focused community events that are open to everyone.
The focus of this worship service is a little different than those in the past. Previous services at the Fiesta have been in Spanish only, which made them inaccessible to many of the people in the community. By having the service be fully bilingual, with songs sung in both English and Spanish, and the prayers and sermon translated on the spot, it makes everything accessible to the vast majority of the community, so that everyone can worship, pray and learn all together.
Our hope, said Robertson, is that people from all segments of the community will come together to celebrate our faith. Its more than just an ecumenical service. Its a recognition of the verse in Ephesians, where Paul wrote, There is one body and one Spirit just as you were called to one hope when you were called one Lord, one faith, one baptism; one God and Father of all, who is over all and through all and in all (Ephesians 4:4-6).
Thats what makes it possible for us all to come together as brothers and sisters in Christ, to worship and celebrate.
A freewill offering will be taken, with the money received going to the AWARE Food Bank.
