Two arrested in June 23 drive-by
Two local men have been arrested in connection with a June 23 drive-by shooting that occurred near the intersection of Hardcastle Avenue and Gatch Street.
Brothers Rudy Arroyo, 19, and Luis Arroyo, 24, both of Woodburn, have been taken into custody and are each charged with three counts of first-degree attempted assault and unlawful use of a weapon.
According to a release from the city of Woodburn, the victims in the incident, who were reportedly not injured in the shooting, provided police with the direction the vehicle headed and a possible residence of the shooting suspects.
At the residence, police found a vehicle matching the victims description and interviewed one of the suspects, Rudy Arroyo. He was arrested June 24, jail records show.
An arrest warrant was issued for Luis Arroyo. He was taken into custody July 12, after the victims in the June 23 shooting had an encounter with him at a local business, the release said.
Both suspects were arrested without incident, police said. They are currently held at the Marion County Correctional Facility, with their bonds set at $70,000 each.
Woodburn Communications Coordinator Jason Horton said police have confirmed the June 23 shooting was gang-related. He also said investigators have determined the Arroyos were not the shooters in an earlier drive-by in Woodburn, which occurred April 29 in the 800 block of Blaine Street.
No one was shot during that incident either, though one victim was injured while fleeing.
Horton said the June 23 incident was not related to a fatal 2012 drive-by shooting death of Michael McGovern, which also occurred near the intersection of Hardcastle and Gatch.
