Right turn lane to I-5 will close for two weeks

Starting sometime in mid to late June and lasting approximately two weeks, the contractor working for the Oregon Department of Transportation on the Woodburn Interchange Project will close the right turn lane to northbound Interstate-5 that is used by motorists traveling west on Highway 214. Motorists will be directed to access I-5 northbound directly from 214 through the right traffic lane.

The temporary closure is part of the next stage of construction in which the contractor continues to build the new roadway on the north side of 214. The contractor has been gradually shifting traffic to the south on 214 and working on segments of the roadway. When the north side of 214 is finished later this year, traffic will then be shifted to the north side so the contractor can work on the south side.

Motorists should be alert to the increased construction activity. While the staging in and around the I-5 bridge will vary, all four lanes on the bridge will be open during peak daytime hours. Also, all lanes of traffic on Highways 214 and 219 will remain open during peak daytime hours.

All areas will be signed and striped to warn motorists of the changes, and to aid traffic flow and enhance safety.

Construction on the project began last summer. Most of the funding for the project comes from the Jobs and Transportation Act (JTA), a funding plan adopted by the 2009 Oregon Legislature to improve and upgrade the state’s transportation system.

Major project elements include: Highway 214/219 improvements to a half mile east and west of the interchange; a reconstructed interchange that includes higher capacity on and off ramps, and widened bridge over I-5; new multi-modal transit/park and ride facility with electric vehicle charging stations; and “gateway” design package that will be unique to Woodburn and promote economic development.
