April is National Child Abuse Prevention Month. Les Schwab Tires is coordinating a diaper drive at all of its Mid-Willamette Valley Tire Center locations to collect diapers for families in need. There is an urgent need for diapers size 3 and up and also pull-ups. Individuals can drop off diapers at any store during the month of April. Patrons can also purchase diapers directly from Les Schwab at their Tire Centers for the drive. The Woodburn Les Schwab store will donate any diaper donation for local Woodburn area needs and the Marion and Polk County Les Schwab stores will donate their diaper collection to Family Building Blocks. Family Building Blocks changes more than 30,000 diapers per year and also distributes emergency diaper kits for clients who are unable to purchase diapers for their children.
Additional drop sites for diaper donations are also at all U.S. Bank branch locations in the Willamette Valley.
FBB is a private, nonprofit organization that works to break the intergenerational cycle of child abuse and neglect by providing services for high-risk families that have children six weeks to five years old. It focuses on building successful and resilient children, strengthening parents and preserving families through comprehensive early childhood and family support services.
In 2013, 99 percent of the children who were involved in FBBs core prevention programs were able to live safely with their parents, thus avoiding abuse, neglect and foster care. Family Building Blocks consistently has more than 150 children on its waiting list for services.
