Woodburn Police chief to return to duties March 31

Woodburn Police Chief Scott Russell is expected to return to full-time duties on Monday, after missing the past several months due to a medical leave of absence.

“I look forward to returning to duty and I am very thankful for the support I received during my recent health challenges,” Russell said in a recent statement from the city.

Capt. Doug Garrett was named acting chief while Russell was out.

“I am extremely happy for Chief Russell, and that he is able to come back full time,” said City Administrator Scott Derickson in the statement. “Capt. Garrett stepped in and went above and beyond the normal call of duty, and did a great job in Chief’s absence.”
