Iverson named chamber president

The local chamber is going through more transition.

After board president Amanda Pratt submitted her resignation on Wednesday, Woodburn Fire Chief Paul Iverson was selected to take her place as president of the Woodburn Area Chamber of Commerce board.

Pratt, who is currently bank manager of the Columbia Bank east branch in Woodburn, is resigning to take a job in Wilsonville.

After Pratt’s announcement, the executive board decided Iverson, who also has been serving on the board, would fill in the remainder of the year.

“I appreciate Amanda’s service to the board,” Iverson said. “She has done a great job with the transition of the chamber.”

The chamber has undergone quite a bit of change in recent months, with the retirement of executive director and office manager Don and Rhonda Judson. Now, Harry Lee Kwai is taking over the position of executive director this month.

“It’s an exciting opportunity,” Iverson said. “We have excellent new director. Our past director did an outstanding job. Harry has a different dynamic and I look forward to working with him.”

Iverson said one of his goals, apart from working to select a president for next year, is to help revitalize the chamber.

“Don was able to get us more stable financially, so we’re hoping to move from that and do more, like get office hours back on a more consistent basis,” Iverson said.

“We always look forward to bringing on new members, but we want to make sure we’re also providing benefits for our current members.”
