A California commercial truck driver has been arrested for manslaughter following the investigation of a fatal Marion County accident in November.
Gurpinder Singh, 27, of?Red Bluff, Calif., was arrested Feb. 12 and charged with manslaughter in the second degree for the death of 26-year-old Dustin Campbell, of Lyons.
On Nov. 4, 2013, police responded to a three-vehicle accident at the Donald/Aurora exit on Interstate 5 southbound. Investigators determined that Singh failed to slow down in time for traffic and hit Campbells 1991 Acura Integra from behind. The commercial truck continued to roll over the top of the small car, then rear-ended another commercial truck.
Campbell was pronounced dead at the scene after first responders struggled to get to him in his crushed car.
Singh was transported to Oregon Health & Science University for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.
I-5 southbound and the southbound exit off-ramp were blocked for nearly four hours.
Singh is being lodged in Tehama County Jail as a fugitive from justice, pending extradition back to Marion County.
The indictment and arrest came after an extensive investigation involving Oregon State Police troopers and collision reconstructionists, Oregon Department of Transportation and Marion County District Attorneys Office.
