Mount Angel Fire District honors volunteers
Individuals and organizations were recognized Jan. 11 for outstanding contributions to the Mount Angel Fire District at its annual awards banquet.
Fire Chief Jim Trierweiler handed out the various awards and recapped the year in a video presentation.
The membership voted Brice Hauth as firefighter of the year, Amanda Beyer as EMT of the year and Don Seiler as officer of the year. Pepsi Northwest Beverage was awarded business of the year.
Chiefs awards went to Ryan Kleinschmit, Greg Boen, Dean Seiler and Victor Hoffer.
Years of service pins were awarded to Jessica Bochsler, Amanda Beyer and Nick Splonski for five years of service; Craig Emch for 10 years; and Jim Trierweiler, Shayne Kleinschmit and Phil Wiesner for 15 years.
Also at the banquet, various people were recognized for life-saving actions to resuscitate Salem resident Dave Jones from a heart attack.
Jones was at work when he suddenly collapsed and lost consciousness, his heart stopped beating, and he quit breathing. Fellow employees Pam Kloft, Mike Kloft, Patty Kloft and Manny Flores alerted emergency responders, through dispatchers Tobey Olson and Loren Hall, and began CPR. Mount Angel Fire personnel Craig Emch, Brice Hauth, Jessica Bochsler, Victor Hoffer and John Bruner responded as did Woodburn Ambulances Maurice Stadeli and Tegan Funk.
Jones, along with his wife and daughter, shared a dinner and socialized with all members of MAFD in a tear-filled celebration of life.
