Suspicious gunmen near MacLaren cited for trespassing, disorderly conduct

Monday afternoon caused a stir in the neighborhood of MacLaren Youth Correctional Facility, as reports were called in about a suspicious man with a gun.

Around 3:55 p.m., a caller from MacLaren reported to METCOM that an armed man wearing dark clothing and a mask was walking near the correctional facility’s perimeter fence.

The Oregon Youth Authority campus was placed on lockdown as police combed the nearby residential area, where they spotted two more individuals wearing similar outfits and also equipped with guns.

Having set up a perimeter, Oregon State Police, Woodburn Police and Marion County Sheriff’s Office deputies moved in and, around 4:30 p.m., detained the three males. They were found to be carrying air-soft rifles.

“They admitted to playing an air soft war game,” said OSP Lt. Steve Mitchell.

Kenneth Chipman, 19, of Woodburn, Dakota Stoddard, 21, of Oregon City, and a 14-year-old from Hubbard were issued citations for trespassing II and disorderly conduct II.

“Even though they were on the outside of the fence, that is still OYA property,” Mitchell explained.

The three were cited and released with misdemeanor criminal charges.
