Mount Angel Telephone donates to local shelter

Mount Angel Telephone awarded a $750 donation to the St. Joseph Shelter in Mount Angel on Oct. 31.

The funds will be used to purchase clothing, food and toys to supplement donations for the 200 Christmas boxes provided to the Mount Angel/Monitor area, according to a press release. Sister Marcella Parrish, shelter director, accepted the donation from Mount Angel Telephone’s vice president of customer care, Debbie Jewell.

The shelter provides emergency and transitional housing; resource and case management; advocacy and referrals; and hot meals and emergency food boxes.

St. Joseph Shelter operates with limited government funding — less than 20 percent of its budget comes from public funds. St. Joseph Shelter has served an average of 152 people a year in the family program and 148 single migrant/seasonal workers.

“Mount Angel Telephone is proud to be a cornerstone business in this community,”?said Jewell. “We welcome the opportunity to give back to beneficial programs like St. Joseph Shelter.”
