New KFC could open in late winter

by: JEFF MCDONALD - A new KFC restaurant is under construction north of Highway 214 in Woodburn. The 3,300 square-foot restaurant will open by late winter or early spring, depending on weather. Crews from Banks-based Five Start Builders Inc. are working steadily to build a new 3,300 square foot KFC restaurant off Highway 214 and Country Club Road. The rebuild of the old restaurant, which occurred to make way for the Woodburn Interchange Project, will be marked by a new design for KFC called “Vision 3,” said Josh Shroyer, project manager for Five Star Builders.

The design integrates chocolate brown, grayish brick with ledge stone, corrugated metal and other urban elements, Shroyer said. The project cost is approximately $1 million.

“It will be one of the first of its kind,” Shroyer said. “It will have a more modern look.”

Fans of the old KFC are asking when the project will be completed, he said. Heading into rainy season, a late winter or early spring opening is likely.
