Hazelnut Festival coming to Mount Angel
Mount Angel Chamber of Commerce is sponsoring the second annual Mount Angel Hazelnut Fest.
The festival celebrates one of the Willamette Valleys largest agricultural crops. And will include a German Holiday Market featuring regional arts and crafts, authentic and traditional German Christmas decorations and crafts, Oregon wineries and breweries, as well as foods that highlight hazelnuts.
The festival will be held in the Mount Angel Festhalle, 500 S. Wilco Highway, Dec. 7 and 8. Saturdays hours are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sundays hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The cost is $5 for adults and free for children 12 and under.
The history of the hazelnut in the Willamette Valley of Oregon dates back to the arrival of early French settlers to the valley. Today, more than 600 hazelnut growers are located in the Willamette Valley.
The small town of Mount Angel, population 3,285, knows how to put on a festival. The Hazelnut Fest is built on the chamber of commerces tradition of working alongside a large team of volunteers to create one of Oregons most successful festivals. Mount Angel has celebrated its German heritage for more than 47 years during Oktoberfest when more than 350,000 people visit the village to attend the four-day festival.
Support for Hazelnut Fest comes from the Oregon Hazelnut Marketing Board and their members. Event sponsors include GEM Equipment of Oregon, Roths Fresh Markets and Franz Breads.
