Gervais brothers arrested for Woodburn man's murder
Two Gervais residents were arrested Friday and face charges for the murder of a Woodburn man.
Brothers Eddie Lopez, 23, and Lorenzo Lopez, 22, were arrested in Independence at 1 p.m. Friday when Independence police officers recognized them while walking along Monmouth Avenue.
The arrest was made three days after Salem Police detectives, assisted by the Salem Police SWAT Team, served a search warrant at the brothers' Gervais residence, only to discover they weren't home.
The two are being booked in the Marion County Jail for the murder of 23-year-old Charlie Rivera, of Woodburn, who was found shot in his parked vehicle at Londonaire Apartments in Salem early Sept. 7. Rivera was transported to Salem Hospital where he died that evening.
According to Lt. Steve Birr of the Salem Police Department, Rivera had gang affiliations, but it was not clear if the crime was gang-related. Rivera had been arrested in Dec. 2010 for delivery of marijuana and methamphetamine and was sentenced to 16 months in prison.
The Lopez brothers will be arraigned in the Marion County Jail Annex on Monday at 3 p.m.
