Woodburn pedestrian critically injured

by: MARION COUNTY JAIL - Jorge Gutierrez Medina A Woodburn man who was struck by a vehicle while crossing a street on foot Saturday evening remains in critical condition Monday.

At 10:16 p.m., the Woodburn Police Department responded to reports of a man who had been hit by an SUV in the 600 block of North Pacific Highway, according to the city of Woodburn.

Investigators determined that Rafael Mendoza-Juarez, 53, had been crossing the street outside of a crosswalk when he was hit by the SUV.

He was transported by LIfeFlight to Oregon Health & Science University in Portland and is listed in critical condition, according to an OHSU spokesman. Requests to speak to the man's family were denied.

The driver of the vehicle, Jorge Gutierrez Medina, 46, of Phoenix, Ariz., remained on scene and cooperated with investigators. He was later arrested and charged with DUII and assault 2 and booked into Marion County Jail.
