National Night Out in Woodburn is Aug. 6

Woodburn neighborhoods are invited to join forces with thousands of communities nationwide for the 30th annual National Night Out crime/drug prevention event on Tuesday, Aug. 6.

National Night Out, which is sponsored by the National Association of Town Watch (NATW) and co-sponsored locally by the Woodburn Police Department, will involve more than 10,000 communities from all 50 states, U.S. territories, Canadian cities and military bases around the world.

National Night Out is designed to: heighten crime and drug prevention awareness; generate support and participation in local anti-crime efforts; strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community relations; and send a message to criminals letting them know neighborhoods are organized and fighting back.

From 6 to 9 p.m., residents in neighborhoods throughout Woodburn and across the nation are asked to lock their doors, turn on outside lights and spend the evening outside with neighbors and police. Many neighborhoods throughout Woodburn will be hosting a variety of special events such as block parties, cookouts, visits from police, flashlight walks, youth activities and anti-crime and drug rallies.

Residents, block and social clubs, local businesses and community groups are encouraged to get in touch with the Woodburn Police Department to coordinate activities, programs and events.

Individuals can register their block, club, business or group today at the police department, 1060 Mount Hood Avenue, or on the city of Woodburn’s website. Registrations must be received no later than July 30.
