Headed to Hop Fest? Here are some things going on

Fun Run starts off festival at 8 a.m.

The annual Hop Fest Fun Run will be Saturday morning and is attracting runners from around the Willamette Valley.

The North Marion Parents are chairing the event again this year, which will include a 10K run, a 5K run and a 1K for the kids.

Registration can be done in advance by visiting www.racenorthwest.com or starting at 7 a.m. the day of the fun run at Rivenes Park. The 5K/10K starts at 8 a.m. and the kids run begins at 9 a.m.

“We’re making sure we have time to finish before the parade starts at 10 a.m.,” said Christi Christenson, who is chairing the fun run this year.

The registration fee for the 5K/10K is $30 and includes a T-shirt.

The cost for the 1K is free, but T-shirts are $10.

North Marion cheerleaders will be volunteering at the run, which already has more than 50 people signed up. Christenson said she plans on having a lot of last-minute signups, bringing the total to around 100 runners.

“A lot of people are trying to get their runs in for the Portland Marathon, so we have people coming from as far as Corvallis to run this,” she said.

Proceeds will go to North Marion Parents, which supports student activities and clubs at the school district.

“With budget cuts, this is one way to help pay for uniforms, supplies, anything they need to continue their group,” explained Christenson.

“North Marion Parents are dedicated to strengthening relationships between the home, school and community.”

Information on parade participation

The parade’s theme this year is “Celebrating our Veterans” and, as a result, there will be many local veterans sharing the role of grand marshal. They will be paraded in both a float and cars, donated by Hubbard Chevrolet. Any veterans who would like to be included can call the fire district 503-981-9454.

Anyone, veteran or not, is encouraged to sign up for the parade, which starts at 10 a.m.
