Tigard, Tualatin teams strong in opening meet
MT. HOOD — Nearly 400 racers, including competitors from Tigard and Tualatin high school, converged on Mt. Hood Meadows for the start of 2018 Oregon high school ski racing season.
The Kelsey Sportsmanship Race was held on the Gemini Giant Slalom Race venue on Saturday.
Tigard boys turned in a strong performance at the opening meet, with an eighth-place finish in the team standings, with a combined overall time of 1 minute, 8.39 seconds.
Lucas Wargo led the way for the Tigers with a 25th-place finish and a time of 22.71. Tyler Olson and Ryan Barlow also contributed team times finishing in 31st and 35th place.
The Tualatin boys team finished 14th place in the team standings with a combined time of 1:13.68. Kai Depp led the way for the Timberwolves with a 48th place finish and a time of 23.73 seconds. Jeff Jost and Christian Jordan contributed team times finishing in 52nd and 83rd place.
The Tigard girls finished in 10th place with combined team time of 1:13.91. Sarah Gentry had the top placing for the day with a 17th-place finish and time of 22.38 seconds. Emma Wihtol and Ashley Belden contributed remaining team times for the Tigers and finished in 49th and 65th place.
Isabel Juliana was right behind Gentry with a 20th-place finish and time of 22.84 seconds, helping lead the Tualatin girls to a 13th-place finish.
Megan Jost and Caylum Tippet added 71st and 90th place finishes to contribute to a combined team time of 1:16.78.
The Lincoln girls finished first overall with a combined time of 1:04.03.
Anna Kearney from Jesuit finished in first place for individual girls. The Lakeridge boys finished first overall with a combined time of 1.04.15. Connor Hilts from Lakeridge had the top time for the boys finishing in first place.
The Tualatin and Tigard teams will be back in action and start Metro League competition this Saturday, at Mt. Hood Meadows, for the opening giant slalom race.
