The Three Rivers League district championships are up next for the Bowmen, Tiger squads

PORTLAND — With the Three Rivers League district championships not far away, the Sherwood High School boys cross country team seems to be running in stride.

In their final league dual meet before the district event, the Bowmen ran to a 20-37 win over Tigard in a meet held Oct. 11 at Westmoreland Park.

With the victory, Sherwood finished its TRL dual meet season with a 4-3 record. The Tigers finished the regular season with a 1-6 mark in league races.

The Bowmen showed their power at the front of the pack at last week's meet, which also included runners from Centennial and David Douglas high schools.

Sherwood junior Henry Giles won the race with a time of 16 minutes and 2 seconds for the 5,000-meter course.

Giles was followed by two of his Bowmen teammates. Sherwood senior Josh Quaglio was second in a time of 16:12 and sophomore Jaron Homer was third at 16:31.

Also for the Sherwood boys, sophomore Thomas Osborne was fifth at 16:49, senior Trevor Widell was 11th at 16:59, senior Brandon Hughes was 14th at 17:14 and freshman Daniel Gomez was 20th at 17:53.

For Tigard, junior Cole Grieb led the way, finishing in fourth place in a time of 16:32. Senior Elliot Yake was close behind in seventh place, with a mark of 16:51.

Also for the Tigers, junior Oscar Nieves Lira was eighth at 16:54, senior Chase Pettibone was ninth at 16:57, senior Enrique Noyes was 25th at 18:08, junior Sullivan Bailey-Darland was 27th at 18:11 and freshman Mitchell Ervin was 28th at 18:21.

In girls competition at last week's meet, Sherwood edged Tigard by a 25-30 margin. The Lady Bowmen and Tigers both fell 15-50 against the powerhouse St. Mary's Academy team.

The split gave the Sherwood girls a final TRL dual meet record of 2-6. The Tigard girls ended their league slate at 1-7.

Freshman Kari Eddington led the way for the Sherwood girls at the meet, placing ninth in a time of 20:14.

Also for the Lady Bowmen, freshman Brooke Smith was 17th at 21:33, junior Emily Pannell was 21st at 21:42, sophomore Vanessa VanWinkle was 24th at 22:07, junior Emily Boynton was 27th at 22:24, senior Gracie Hollin was 33rd at 22:45 and junior Allison Pierce was 34th at 22:45.

Sophomore Elizabeth Brands was the top finisher for the Tigard girls. She took 10th place in a time of 20:41.

Also for the Tigers, senior Ashley Belden was 13th at 21:12, sophomore Sophie Brands was 22nd at 21:43, freshman Isabelle Ford was 28th at 22:25, senior Sara Presley was 29th at 22:25, sophomore Molly Kerns was 32nd at 22:42 and freshman Lauren Johnson was 35th at 23:00.

The Sherwood and Tigard teams will next be in action at the Three Rivers League District Championships, which will be held Wednesday at Clackamas Community College in Oregon City.

The first race of the day will be the girls junior varsity 2 race, starting at 1:30 p.m The boys junior varsity 2 race will follow at 2:15 p.m. The girls junior varsity race will begin at 3 p.m. with the boys junior varsity race set for 3:30 p.m. The girls varsity race will begin at 4 p.m. The final race will be the boys varsity race, starting at 4:30 p.m.

From the district meet, the top three boys and girls teams, as well as the top 10 individuals from each varsity race, will advance to compete at the Class 6A state championships.
