VanDomelen off to fast start at Linfield


The Tualatin grad helps the Wildcats win 4 straight

McMINNVILLE — Tualatin High School graduate Corey VanDomelen, who helped the Linfield College baseball team win the NCAA Division III national championship last year as a sophomore, has got off to roaring start in his junior year with the Wildcats.

VanDomelen, a 2011 Tualatin grad and starting shortstop for Linfield, is hitting at a.333 clip, with six hits in 18 at-bats, for the Wildcats through their first four games of the season, all victories.

He also has a triple, five runs scored and five RBIs already on the season.

In the Wildcats' latest win, a 16-0 victory over Whittier College in a game played Sunday in Phoenix, Ariz., VanDomelen went 2 for 5 at the plate with a triple, two runs scored and two RBIs.

He also had two hits and two RBIs in a 10-3 win over Redlands on Saturday and he had a hit and two runs scored in a season-opening 8-7 victory over La Verne College on Friday.

Other area players on the Linfield roster include junior outfielder/pitcher Justin Davis, who is a 2011 Sherwood graduate, and freshmen Jon Fishback and Connor Scott, who are both 2013 Tualatin grads.

Linfield will be back in action Friday when it plays at Western Oregon in a game starting at noon in Monmouth.
