Tualatin boys sprint to third at Albany invite

ALBANY — The Tualatin High School boys cross country team turned in a big performance, among a big field of teams, at the Harrier Classic, held Saturday at Bryant Park in Albany.

The Timberwolves finished in third place in the team standings at the 23-school race with a score of 142 points.

Junior Matthew Lovos led the way for the Wolves. He ran to ninth place with a time of 16 minutes and 34 seconds for the 5,000-meter race.

Tualatin junior Mark French finished in 17th place in the race with a mark of 17:00. Also for the Wolves, senior Tyler Snyder was 31st at 17:20, sophomore Malachi Seib was 39th at 17:35, junior Dakota Steppe was 54th at 17:48, junior William Calder was 53rd at 17:57 and sophomore Jason Stallkamp was 84th at 18:23.

Sheldon took first place in the boys team standings and Corvallis was second.

The Tualatin girls, splitting the squad, competed in the freshman/sophomore junior varsity race and the junior/senior junior varsity race.

In the freshman/sophomore event, Tualatin freshman Kate Intile ran to victory with a time of 21:37. Fellow Timberwolf freshman Nichole Oh was fifth at 22:28 and sophomore Sarah Krill was sixth at 22:41.

In the junior/senior race, Tualatin junior Joslyn Gastiaburu took third place with a mark of 22:10.
