Cultural Coalition of Washington County awards grants
Arts groups from throughout Washington County gathered March 20 in Hillsboro to celebrate the grants they received from The Cultural Coalition of Washington County.
The coalition, which gets its funding from the Oregon Cultural Trust, recently awarded nearly $38,000 to 30 local organizations for cultural projects to be conducted this year. Grants ranged from $500 to $2,000.
The total amount distributed was about the same as the previous grant cycle, but distributed to more organizations.
The coalition continues to try to reach new, local organizations as we know that even small grants make a big difference to community-based arts organizations, said Lesly Sanocki, who leads the coalition. A total of 38 applications were received from a variety of large and small arts, heritage and humanities organizations from across the county.
The annual grant celebration is sponsored by Pamplin Media Group. This years event was held at the Walters Cultural Arts Center in Hillsboro and featured photographer Julie Keefe, who last year worked with students from South Meadows Middle School in Hillsboro and the Washington County 4-H to produce Hello Neighbor, a photo exhibit.

Last June more than $38,000 in grants was distributed for projects occurring between July 2013 and June 2014. From this point forward, grants will be distributed annually on a calendar-year basis.
In the past nine years, the coalition has distributed $339,000 to Washington County groups.
