Gingerbread doghouse contest benefits animals

Cedar Hills Crossing hosts Home for the Holidays display and contest

The Bonnie L. Hays Small Animal Shelter is holding its second annual Gingerbread Dog House Contest. Pet-themed gingerbread or decorated cake creations are eligible for the contest.

Entries must be delivered Sunday, Dec. 15, between 10 and 11 a.m. to the Cedar Hills Crossing interior mall area at 3205 S.W. Cedar Hills Blvd., in Beaverton. There is a suggested $10 donation with each entry.

This year’s theme is “Home for the Holidays.” Judging categories are youths (12 and younger), teens (13-19), adults (20 and older), pet business/organization, culinary students and culinary professionals.

Entries will be available to the public for viewing Sunday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Winners will be announced at 3:30 p.m. A People’s Choice Award will also be given to the house that receives the most donations.

A selection of entries will be on display inside the mall for the remainder of December. Donations from the contest will help the shelter care for the animals dreaming of their future homes.

The Bonnie L. Hays Small Animal Shelter cares for lost animals, finds homes for abandoned pets, licenses dogs and enforces animal cruelty laws. The shelter is located at 1901 S.E. 24th Ave. in Hillsboro.
