Pedal through the city during Bike Beaverton

Skills rodeo begins at 1 p.m. Sunday followed by family ride at 2 p.m.

by: SUBMITTED PHOTO - The sixth annual Bike Beaverton event features three family-friendly routes suitable for most skill and experience levels. Beaverton’s Bicycle Advisory Committee is hosting the sixth annual Bike Beaverton event on Sunday beginning at 1 p.m. in Beaverton City Park at Southwest Fifth Street and Hall Boulevard, across from the library.

Festivities start with a bike rodeo at 1 p.m. hosted by the Beaverton Police Department, which includes a bicycle obstacle course for kids. Representatives from the Northwest Bicycle Safety Council will inspect and fit helmets, and mechanics from Bike Gallery, Coventry Cycle Works and Bike N’ Hike will check participants’ bikes and make minor adjustments.

“Bike Beaverton brings our community together,” said Beaverton Mayor Denny Doyle. “I encourage everyone to attend and join in the fun.”

At 2 p.m., Mayor Doyle will lead the family-friendly ride through city streets. There are three routes to choose from this year: 2.5 miles, 4.3 miles and 6.5 miles.

Participants are encouraged to choose a route based on experience and skill level. The bike ride concludes at Beaverton City Park with an ice cream social serving as the event’s finale.

All ride participants are required to wear a helmet and complete a participation waiver form. Forms are available online at BeavertonOregon.gov/Bike and at the event.

Bike Beaverton is sponsored by the Northwest Bicycle Safety Council, Bike Gallery, Bike N’ Hike and Coventry Cycle Works.
