Taste of Washington County set for Friday

Jerralynn Ness will be honored for her work with Community Action

Community Action's own Jerralynn Ness will be honored Friday during A Taste of Washington County.

Ness is the 2013 Heart of Washington County Award recipient that recognizes an individual who has made a significant contribution to the county.

"Jerralynn is a fierce advocate for Washington County residents needing support," said Sam Shogren, executive director of the Washington County Museum. "We enthusiastically pay tribute to her excellence in leadership and her commitment to reducing poverty in our community. She is an example and inspiration to us all."

Ness has worked for Community Action since 1973, serving as the executive director since 1984. She is a recognized leader in the region for her ability to bring the community together and facilitate positive change for those less fortunate. She has dedicated her life to eradicating poverty, with the mission of helping struggling families achieve economic security, Shogren said.

"I am humbled to have been selected by the Washington County Museum for this prestigious award and proud that the work of Community Action is valued by an organization whose work I admire." Ness said of the honor. "Community Actions responds to over 30,000 requests for help by families annually seeking a pathway out of poverty. It has been a privilege to be a part of a mission to create opportunities for our neighbors to achieve economic security and the promise of the American dream."
