What will you find at the Tigard Public Library this Sunday afternoon, May 21?
Books, certainly. Computers. CDs, DVDs and Blu-Rays, available for checkout. A bucket truck. A backhoe.
Wait — what?
The Tigard Public Works Department is teaming up with the library for a "Public Works Day" event. It is inviting members of the public to enjoy "Fun with Heavy Equipment" at the outset of National Public Works Week, which is next week.
The Public Works Department will be bringing pieces of heavy equipment for library patrons to enjoy, along with tools, street signs and other items that Tigard's city crews work with every day.
Visitors will have the opportunity to go up in a bucket truck, just like utility workers do when working on power lines and streetlights, and operate a backhoe.
The event will take place from noon to 2 p.m. Sunday, both inside and outside the library.
The Tigard Public Library is located at 13500 S.W. Hall Blvd., just a couple blocks south of the Tigard Public Works Department.
The week of May 21 to May 27 is recognized by the American Public Works Association as National Public Works Week. The APWA has sponsored National Public Works Week since 1960.
