Tualatin Valley Fire & Rescue crews were called to Highway 217 near Southwest Scholls Ferry Road at about 12:30 p.m., after a car traveling south crashed into the highway's median.

Rescue crews were able to extricate the single occupant from the vehicle within 10 minutes, and the highway was shut down in both directions to allow for a LifeFlight helicopter to land.

LifeFlight is most often used in cases of extreme emergency, but TVF&R officials said the driver sustained non-life-threatening injuries and that LifeFlight was called "due to the mechanism of the crash."

The patient, whose name was not released, was flown to a local hospital for treatment.

In addition to LifeFlight, TVF&R was assisted by Metro West Ambulance, the Washington County Sheriff's Office and Tigard Police.

Tigard Police are investigating the crash. No citations were issued.

More information will be posted as it becomes available.
