Voting open online to support local cause

The Tualatin School House Pantry received a $2,000 donation last week, with a chance at another $10,000 award in the next couple weeks. It all depends on an online contest.

Miller Insurance, one of the organization's supporters, was named a finalist in the Safeco Insurance-sponsored Make More Happen Award.

Miller Insurance President Ryan Miller said the award emphasized his company's efforts to "inspire clients, give back to the community and have fun," a campaign documented by a series of photos of volunteers at the Tualatin School House Pantry.

The organization collects more than 5,000 pounds of food donations monthly from the community, and distributed 632,000 pounds of food in 2012. School House gives five-day food supplies to up to 700 families from Tualatin, Durham, Lake Oswego and West Linn.

Twenty-three agencies from across the country are competing, and the top four will be awarded with a $10,000 donation to their respective charities. Voting closes Monday, Aug. 19, at 10 a.m. Visit for a link to vote.
