SANDY— Coming off a convincing victory over Putnam the week prior, the Sandy volleyball squad picked up right where they left off.
The Pioneers took down Milwaukie in straight sets on Tuesday September, 5, winning 25-16, 25-8, 25-8. Olivia Caldwell led Sandy with seven kills and four aces and Samantha Brewster added six kills in the victory. London Starley also had a big game for Sandy, finishing with a game-high 10 assists.
"No matter who we play, we do a get job of getting hyped up and ready to win," Caldwell said.
The Pioneers got out to a 9-3 lead in the first set after a pair of aces by Caldwell and kills by Samantha Brewster and Chloe Levesque.
Levesque is used playing in the middle for the Pioneers. However, Sandy coach Shyanna Davis moved her to the outside for this match.
"We had Chloe playing in a different position last week, but we felt like we needed to change things up and she caught on fast," Davis said. "That is what we need out of her. She has stepped in and is doing a fantastic job."
Sandy is still playing without two key starters in Pammeigh Carter and Trysten Kasch, so Levesque has already gotten used to switching positions to fill a role.
"(Davis) switches me up all the time. I just have to be prepared and adjust to it quick," Levesque said. "It might take me a couple swings to get with it, but I feel like I will be good once I get into a flow."
Sandy would extend their lead to 19-9 later on the set, but it was clear that Milwaukie would not go down in the first set without a fight.
