Not everything went Sandy's way at the NWOC district tennis meet last Wednesday, but the Pioneers did just enough as a team to get the job done.
Sandy came away with 33.5 total points, which was just good enough to win the NWOC district tennis championship as the Pioneers were just able to edge out La Salle by 0.5 points.
"It was a great day for us. We are going to send more kids to state than we ever have for boys tennis," Sandy head coach Chris Meyers said. "As far as the kids success and what they have been able to accomplish this year, it has been a terrific season."
Sandy's Donte DeSimone was cruising through the singles bracket and secured a state berth before an injury sidelined him in the semifinals.
On the doubles side, the duo of Grayson Kansala and Ryan McAra easily swept through their early competition and won the championship bout 6-4, 6-4.
The 5A state tournament begins Thursday morning at the Portland Tennis Center.
