Naas students present holiday music

The students and faculty of Naas Elementary have invited Boring community members to join them for a holiday music concert.

The event will run from 6:45-7:45 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 19, at the Naas Elementary cafeteria, 12240 S.E. School Ave.

Students from grades one through five will perform holiday selections. The event will wrap up with an audience sing-along.

Sandy High performs three nights of music

The Sandy High School band and choir will showcase their music just in time for holiday break.

The Jazz Band presented its concert Tuesday night, but there are two more chances to hear some music.

At 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 18, in the school auditorium, the high school band will perform. This winter ensemble will be much more holiday oriented. The band will perform songs from "The Nutcracker," and a few other surprises.

And at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 19, the choir students will get their turn to perform as well. Their event also will be held in the auditorium. Five choirs will perform different Christmas songs culminating in the final song: the "Hallelujah" chorus. It is a tradition for the choirs to ask the audience to come up and join in this song if they so choose.

Oregon Trail Academy to accept applications

Beginning Jan. 6, the Oregon Trail Academy Charter school will begin accepting applications for the 2014-15 school year for grades K-8.

Applications will be available on the acdemy website or can be picked up at the school office, 36225 Proctor Road in Boring. The school will stop accepting applications by 3 p.m. Monday, March 10, and the lottery will happen at 9 a.m. the following Thursday, March 13.

Parents to meet Firwood principal for coffee

Every third Friday of each month, Firwood Elementary School Principal Tara Black holds “Coffee Hour with the Principal.”

The next one will be held from 9-10 a.m. Friday, Dec. 20, at Firwood Elementary, 42900 S.E. Trubel Road. Coffee, cupcakes and conversation will be available.
