To appreciate the original movie “Madagascar” and its sequels, adults of every age will have to become a kid again — just for a while.

Movie watchers also will have to stretch their imaginations during this animated tale, whose sequels extend the storyline way beyond U.S. borders.

Local residents will have to come to the movie in the park to find out where the animals’ travels take them and what off-the-wall life experiences befall these hapless and fearless zoo-raised creatures while a murderous animal control officer from Monaco pursues them.

Saturday night’s sequel, “Madagascar 3: Europe’s Most Wanted,” is a 93-minute animated film of comedic adventure, and is rated PG.

The city of Sandy and some of its financial partners are providing feature-length movies for local families at the Dale Nicholls Main Stage in Meinig Park every Saturday in August.

Bring a blanket or low-back lawn chairs. The movie begins at dusk. Meinig Park is behind Sandy City Hall at 39250 Pioneer Blvd. For more information, call 503-668-5569 or visit sandysummersounds.com.
