Sandy-area wedding vendors host sixth annual event on Feb. 18

CONTRIBUTED PHOTO: STUDIO 623 PHOTOGRAPHY - The event includes a drawing for a 'freestyled' engagement shoot. For the past six years, local wedding vendors have gathered together to make sure brides have their something blue, something new and everything in between in time for their big day.

The theme of this year's bridal show "a country bridal affair," will be presented from noon-3 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 18, at the Boring-Damascus Grange, 27861 SE Grange St., Boring.

Event coordinators Becky Nerpel of Studio 623 Photography and Angela Oliver of Simply Elegant Occasions, say their show is tailor-fitted to the Sandy-area bride.

"It was created out of a desire to give local brides something more personal," Nerpel says. "There's a niche out here. ... We created a smaller experience."

Oliver notes that their show is unique, and often that appeals to more than just local brides.

"The thing that I like about this show is that it's different from other trade shows. It's warm and inviting," she said.

Portland brides wanting a more "country" wedding come out to the Sandy area for what they consider a "destination wedding."

Both coordinators say the vendors involved work together throughout the year to meet the wedding-related demands of the area.

"We're all quick to refer each other," Oliver says. "We want to support each other because we're all small businesses out here."

The businesses banding together include caterers, venues, planners, rental companies, bartenders, hair and makeup stylists, dress suppliers, DJs, photographers — you name it and there will probably be a vendor for it present and giving out free accessories.

Many vendors will host individual drawings at their stations, and there will be one big drawing for a "freestyled" engagement shoot.

Admission to this event is free, but advance registration is requested.
