Starbucks hosts Sandy youth Open Mic Night

Sandy Starbucks, at 36765 Highway 26, will host a youth Open Mic Night from 6-7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 28.

The event is for kids age 3 and older.

There will be a sign-up sheet, and kids can sign up for 10-minute slots.

Performers are invited to sing, dance, play an instrument or read a poem, whatever suits their skills and moods.

“It’s a great way for the kids to build their self-esteem and show their skills,” said Carol Cohen, event coordinator for the city of Sandy.

Cohen says she usually plans the events for winter and spring, and then based on popularity decides whether to continue in the summer.

The next event is scheduled Friday, March 14.

Cohen said she would like to expand the events so they occur at local businesses during First Friday events in the future, but nothing is set in stone.

First Fridays start in spring and run through the fall.

It is a chance for businesses in downtown Sandy to open their doors to residents enjoying a night out.
