Shouting leads to theft arrests

Joseph J. Ahearn and Danny L. Dedmore, both transients, were arrested earlier this month following calls from a citizen who reported “men on drugs” causing a disturbance at a bus stop in the 37100 block of Highway 26.

Ahearn, 40, was arrested for theft by receiving, harassment and marijuana possession within 1,000 feet of a school. Dedmore, 35, was arrested for theft by receiving and second-degree criminal mischief.

They were arrested at 9:10 p.m. Oct 5 in the 37100 block of Highway 26. An officer responded to a report of the men yelling at each other at the bus stop.

An officer contacted Ahearn and Dedmore and saw two cases of beer and several bottles of Tide laundry detergent in plain view, but not in grocery bags, in a Safeway cart.

The officers called Safeway and confirmed that two cases of beer recently had been stolen.

Police said neither Ahearn or Dedmore had plausible explanations of how they’d come to possess the items.

They were arrested and taken to the Sandy Police Department.

When searched, Ahearn reportedly had a marijuana pipe and later allegedly kicked an officer when he was in a holding cell. He then complained of medical issues, and was released to medics and transported to a hospital, but not before he was cited on three separate offenses.

En route to the Clackamas County Jail, Dedmore allegedly yelled intermittently and kicked out the back window of the patrol car. Police also said he was “aggressive” toward the jail deputies who escorted him to jail. He was put into a holding cell on the Sandy charges, as well as on a warrant out of Missouri.
